Michelle, 60, told how she cooked up daffodils instead of spring onions

She confessed to mistaking daffodils for spring onions when shopping – before taking the blooms home and cooking them.

Michelle said: “I was doing a stir fry, I went to a well known supermarket and brought home what I thought was a spring onion, cooked it, put it into the wok, tasted it.

“Next thing I knew I was running to the loo and I was violently sick.

“Everyone thought I was completely crazy.

“I said ‘but look, especially when they are buds, they look similar.’

“I’m so glad someone has made the same mistake.”

The flowers can be poisonous when eaten.

Good Morning Britain fans were not forgiving, with one taking to Twitter to write: “If you can’t tell the difference between a daffodil and a spring onion then there’s something wrong with your brain.”

Another put: “Yes because spring onions and daffodils, look so alike don’t they.”

A third continued: “That was soooo funny that story that never happened , who’s thick enough not to know what a daffodil looks like ffs.”

Another argued: “Daffodils do not look like spring onions, are people really that thick?!”

One then put: “If people are stupid enough to eat daffodils f**k ’em.”

It came after a hapless husband made a similar mistake – taking his partner a bunch of onions as a gift.

Last year, Michelle was rushed to hospital following a mystery illness.

Earlier in the show, Michelle talked about how she was set to deliver a petition to Downing Street calling for free primary school meals for all.

The Barnardos ambassador told GMB: “I remember when I was a kid, my mum was a single parent.

“She didn’t want us to have free school meals as she felt it was humiliating for us – there was a separate queue those days.

“So she worked three jobs and she really struggled.”
