Bosses have brought back huge characters like Sam Mitchell and stars like Patsy Kensit to huge success and now The Sun can exclusively reveal how they have set their sights on big name signings for a brand new family.

New boss Chris Clenshaw took over the soap last year and has set about making his mark.

A source revealed: “EastEnders has got a lot going for it but it really needs a new family to shake things up.

“Bosses are looking at big names to go with big stories for the newcomers to really put EastEnders back on top.

“The sky is the limit as far as they are concerned. They want the biggest and the best.

“Fans could well be surprised at who will be arriving in Walford this year.”

And with the special anniversary week flash-forward featuring a shocking murder - but hiding the victim - fans are set for an explosive year.

An EastEnders insider added: “Chris has big plans for the show and is obviously looking at new characters but bosses are staying tight lipped about what’s to come but the next few months are set to be explosive.”

Chris recently opened up about taking risks with the soap and trying new things.

"When doing something we as a show have never attempted before, we have to consider whether it's right for EastEnders and how the audience will feel about it,” he said.

“It wasn't a decision we made easily but, as long as we remain true to the DNA of the show, which is about family, community, and love, and we bear that in mind at all times, I believe we can try different things.

“We can play with form, we can play with structure and we can create intrigue and grip and excite our audience in new ways."

The executive producer also teased that fans should “expect the unexpected” this year.

He added: "What I’d also say is that a lot can happen in Walford between February and December – circumstances can change, relationships can change, loyalties can change – so what you may suspect now could be somewhat different as we make our way through 2023 and head towards Christmas.";
