Call The Midwife fans break down in tears over shock death in emotional final

CALL The Midwife viewers were left distraught after show favourite Lizzie Yue was killed in a tragic car crash.

The character who was heavily pregnant, and played by Rebecca Hyde, was with her husband when the accident happened.

And fans were left devastated at the emotional scene in the BBC drama’s final episode.

Just seconds after the tragedy occurred one viewer commented: “Please safe the baby, this is heartbreaking #callthemidwife. Thought this episode was being too happy .”

Another said: “Ok I’m crying like a baby right now.”

While another added: “Bloody hell! Caesarean in the street!”

In relatively graphic scenes, viewers watched as Dr Turner rushed to Lizzie’s aid, only to find that he was too late as she had passed away minutes before.

In a desperate bid to save her unborn child, he performed a caesarean in the middle of the street with the help of Shelagh.

Speaking ahead of the final, Helen George, who plays Trixie Franklin in the show, said: “There’s a downside and there’s a tragedy, but there’s also a very beautiful payoff and I hope people will really enjoy it, because we did.”
