Hit sitcom is leaving BBC2 in huge shake-up after six hit series

BBC2 comedy Two Doors Down is set to join BBC1 as part of a major broadcaster shake-up.

The Scottish sitcom, which started in 2016 and centres around a family and their insufferable neighbours, will leave its current channel and jump up to BBC1.

, the show has now been commissioned for its seventh series. The most recent Christmas special attracted 2.8 million viewers.

Production will start this summer and air later this year.

Co-creators Simon Carlyle and Gergor Sharp said: "We're excited to be spreading our wings and lowering the tone as we introduce BBC One audiences to life in Latimer Crescent.”

Speculation of a return had been circulating for months and who plays wrestler Grado's fiance Michelle, added more fuel to the fire during an interview with Edith Bowman, for BBC's Hogmanay show.

When asked of her future career plans she hinted at a return when she said: "And some more Two Doors Down."

She continued: "In the summer we're supposed to be filming that (series seven) but that's still to be confirmed."

Head of Comedy Josh Cole and Executive producer Steven Canny said: "We couldn’t be more proud of the success story that is Two Doors Down. "

They added: "It’s an absolute joy to work on and loved by a large loyal fanbase that have embraced these families and neighbours as though their own over the years!"
