The little girl wore her jacket in every scene, as she’s eating breakfast and dinner and while watching TV.

Many characters made reference to it on screen, pharmacist Faisal Bhatti’s daughter mentions it as well as Rob himself - who is abusive to his wife, Joanna - when he was seen ordering her to "take off the coat” while they’re in the house.

However, many fans were left hopeful that Sunday night's nail-biting finale may have provided some clear definitive answers as to why the youngster was never seen without it.

Sadly, Poppy was not seen on screen again and no reference to the coat was made during the highly-charged episode leading many fans to cry out online for answers.

Another said: "Unanswered questions I need from Happy Valley - Why was Poppy always wearing her coat?"

As a third commented: "I loved it but 1 thing - they actually never cleared up why that kid Poppy never took her coat off in Happy Valley?"

Call the Midwife star shares regret over prison after getting away with robbery

During the tense final episode, Rob Hepworth avoided prison for his wife’s murder - with Catherine solving that crime at her leaving do - but instead was locked up after his collection of sick indecent images was revealed.

Andy Shepherd revealed to Catherine: "We found indecent images on his phone. Turns out he was blackmailing a lad at school to send them to him."

It follows the sinister scene where in episode three, Rob held a lingering stare at Ryan following what was thought to be a heartwarming conversation but not has a completely different meaning.
