She told fans of her TalkTV drive time show that despite the "sadness" and "shock", she wouldn't let it get her down.

Vanessa said: "People who have been reading about my private life over the weekend will know that my 16-year relationship has come to an end.

"I have said, I'm very sad. I'm very shocked, but I am going to soldier forth. I hope to rise like a phoenix from the ashes and all of that."

She added: "Meanwhile, I'm feeling that brokenhearted thing, you know where your heart hurts.

"You know, you feel as if you know the blood's kind of stopping pumping halfway round.

"Then you kind of take a bit of a breath and shake a little bit, then it starts pumping again."

Elsewhere on the show, Vanessa thanked her celebrity friends for "rallying round" her when she needed it most.

A number of the broadcaster's pals headed to social media to show their support for the star after revealing she and Ben had gone their separate ways.

It was understood she discovered a trail of emails and social media messages that led her to uncover the infidelity.

Vanessa took to her Instagram last night to reveal why she had been missing from her social media for three weeks.

"I've missed you," she told her fans. "I haven't been on Instagram for three days and that's because my relationship with Ben is over after 16 years.

"I didn't know what to say to you on Instagram.

"But, now it's clear that it's over, I really believe that once the trust is gone in a relationship that it's over and you can't really get it back.

"So I just wanted to say obviously I feel incredibly sad and I'm pretty disappointed, and I'm shocked.

"It's a pretty horrible thing but, also, I'm full of resolve. I'm not going to let this defeat me."

Putting a positive spin on things, Vanessa said: "I am so glad to be living longer than my mum did, she died at 57 and for the Lord's prayers, I am going to be 61 next month.

"I am very very grateful to be alive and I want to carry on feeling that way and I want to celebrate and find fun and laughter anywhere I can.

"I know it is not going to be easy but I am absolutely determined to do it."

Her celebrity friends flooded the comments section with their support, including This Morning host Holly, 41.

"We simply love you to bits," she penned, as Zoe Ball chimed in: "Feel the love that surrounds you always, wonderful V."

"He's a… and you have survived far, far worse," Carol Vorderman added. "You ARE a survivor and I can't wait to be going out with you, as you know."

Rochelle Humes chimed in: "We love you lots," while Myleene Klass said: "You have got this, Vanessa, and we have got you.

"You have been so brave and will absolutely rise from this like the Queen you are. You deserve loyalty and love and knowing your worth and not settling for anything less than that takes balls. Proud of you."
