Bargain Hunt couple wide-eyed as they find compass made from rare crystal – but show soon takes a disastrous turn
ONE couple was left stunned as they thought they had found a steal during the latest episode of Bargain Hunt but things quickly took a sour turn.
During a new episode of the BBC show, Leyanne and Craig were left open-mouthed at discovering a rare type of crystal only found in Castelton in Derbyshire.
Having found the item, the couple were left ecstatic and were quick to declare: “We're going to be the winners.”
The purple and blue gem stone, known as Blue John, is only found in the quaint Castelton village and the pair found a compass featuring the rare gem.
Leyanne, was a fan of the gem having visited the Blue John mines of the area when she was younger.
She remarked: “I remember going to Blue John mines when I was younger with my parents. I know that it's rare because there's only two mines, from what I understand.”

Completely enamoured with the item, the pair decided to shell out on it and convinced the seller to drop the price from £129 to £100.
With the item having arrived in the expert hands of auctioneer Charles Hanson, he offered up his thoughts on the stellar find.
He said: “It's not overly old. The compass itself probably is no more than 30 or 40 years old, but it's endearing because Blue John is slowly disappearing.”
However he gasped as he realised how much the pair had paid for it and speculated that they had over-valued how rare it exactly was.
Upon finding out they paid £100, he said: “Oh goodness me, really?!... So maybe it's a southern direction for this but let's hope it goes north!”
Charles expected the item to take closer to a figure of between £40 and £60.
It seemed that the couple's winning feeling was quickly fading as they took the compass to auction.
Just as Charles had predicted, the Blue John compass fetched a mere £40 leaving them with a £60 loss.
Things did not get much better for the pair when two of their other items also failed to bring in any other profit.
They ended up with more than £130 in losses which put them out of the race after their competitors on the red team only lost £9 and thus becoming the winners of the episode.
