BBC One viewers were left at the edge of their seats when a Happy Valley character faced an uncertain fate.
Fans of the crime series were also shocked to recognise a face they had already seen in Coronation Street.
The latest instalment of Happy Valley left viewers on a cliff-hanger following an explosive showdown.
On Sunday (January 15, 2023), Joanna Hepworth revealed she had lied about telling her husband Rob about Faisal's drug dealing.
She also announced she didn't want her other half killed after all, despite him not being the best of partners.
The pharmacist portrayed by Amit Shah flipped his lid and became violent.
More Happy Valley
Joanna was struck with a rolling pin until she was left unconscious on the kitchen floor.
And when he heard Sergeant Catherine Cawood's voice (played by Sarah Lancashire) on the answer phone, Faisal feared she may spill the beans and share details of his illegal deeds.
Faisal thus decided to get rid of the troubling witness and reached for the lethal injection he had brought to kill Rob - will he really kill Joanna?
While viewers may have to wait Sunday to find out if Joanna truly is in mortal danger, most of them rushed over to Twitter to praise the nail-biting program.

"I said he'd kill Joanna. Amazing show, so tense you don't know what's gonna happen next", one of them penned.
Another wrote: "Can we just appreciate the acting of the woman who plays Joanna. That scene at the end there where he bashed her skull in and she’s having a fit."
However, another fan pointed out that actress Mollie Winnard appeared on an ITV evening staple a few years back.
"Mollie Winnard, big fan of Happy Valley, thought I recognised your name from somewhere, and it was Corrie. Shame if Joanna is a goner."
The Manchester-born actress struck TV gold in 2018, when she joined the Coronation Street line-up as Kayla Clifton.
Diehard fans of the long-running soap will remember that her character on the cobbles held Bethany Platt (Lucy Fallon) hostage after her father Neil raped and groomed the teen.
Once her father was jailed, Kayla vowed revenge on Bethany and came to Weatherfield with a plan.
But she soon found out the truth and apologised to Bethany and she hasn't been seen of heard from since.
Former Corrie co-star Sacha Parkinson aka Sian Powers took to Instagram to cheer for Mollie, writing: "Smashing it!"
Angie Appleton actress Victoria Ekanoye followed up with: "I LOVE ME SOME MOLLIE."
