But the boys have confirmed fans' nightmares by announcing the show's run is over after eight episodes.

Having been the hosts of a number of cooking and travel shows, the pair investigated quality local restaurants working with local suppliers in their latest BBC offering.

The hosts confirmed the series' end in an Instagram post.

Alongside a clip from the programme, they wrote: "Sadly, the series has come to an end.

"We hope you enjoyed the series and the journey we went through with each episode, we look forward to seeing you on your telly sometimes soon. Be sure to catch all of the episodes from GO LOCAL on iPlayer!"

This series is believed to have been the last one Dave filmed before he announced he had been diagnosed with cancer last year.

Fans were left devastated to learn that the show would be having no further episodes and rushed to share their disappointment, and gratitude, to the pair in the comments section.

One gutted fan penned: "I've watched you guys from the start. Can't believe it's come to the end! Looking forward to your next project!"
