Who is Countdown host Colin Murray?

COLIN Murray will be replacing Anne Robinson on Countdown, Channel 4 has confirmed.

The 45-year-old from Ireland is best known for his work heading up Match Of The Day 2 on BBC Two.

Who is Colin Murray?

Colin Murray is a Northern Irish radio and TV presenter.

He was born on March 10, 1977, in Dundonald, east of Belfast.

Starting out his career, he first trained and worked as a news journalist.

As he had a passion for both music and sport, he later moved into music journalism and publishing.

He made his national radio debut in 1999 on Radio 1 co-hosting The Session music show.

This was followed by a television debut in 2002 as one of six co-presenters on Channel 4's morning show RI:SE.

From 2003 onwards Murray managed to establish himself as a music radio presenter.

In 2012, Murray married Carly Paradis, a Bafta-nominated Canadian-born British composer, songwriter and pianist.

Is Colin Murray the permanent host of Countdown?

On January 11, 2023, it was revealed that Murray is the new permanent host of the Channel 4 show.

Murray has fronted the long-running game show since Anne Robinson stepped down in the summer of 2022.

The news was announced on Steph's Packed Lunch, with Colin admitting "it's a career dream".

Jo Street, head of daytime and features at Channel 4 said they had "listened to the fans" and decided to keep him on as its "permanent host".

Prior to his work on Match Of The Day 2 and Countdown, he has also presented radio shows on BBC Radio 5 Live and Talksport among others.

From 2013 to 2016 he hosted the 10 am to 1 pm slot on TalkSport, before a takeover by News Corp.

Away from radio and TV, he has written articles for The Guardian, as well as a book called A Random History Of Football.
