Ofcom reveals most controversial TV moments of 2022 as thousands of complaints made over the year

LOVE Island was the most complained about TV show of 2022, as Ofcom revealed the most controversial moments of the year.

The most explosive episode, which led to over 2000 complaints to Ofcom, was the infamous Movie Night, which aired on July 17.

Viewers were horrified as the girls were targeted by the boys – and Ekin Su and Tasha Ghouri in particular were singled out.

Ofcom said of the matter:  “Complaints related to alleged misogynistic and bullying behaviour by some contestants in the villa, and we carefully assessed each and every one of these complaints.

“We ultimately concluded that the programme did not warrant formal investigation because of how this behaviour was put into context on the programme.”

The second biggest issue driving complaints this year was viewers objecting to Matt Hancock’s participation in I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here!

There were also hundreds of complaints about the way he was treated on the show.

Ofcom said: “Under our rules, and taking into account freedom of expression, there is no ban on any particular person taking part in programmes.

“However, if the inclusion of someone in a programme is likely to cause offence, we expect broadcasters to take steps to mitigate or justify that offence. How they do that editorially, is up to them.”

Other shows that raked up complaints were Friday Night Live, Jeremy Vine and the FIFA World Cup Final.

Good Morning Britain and Sky News also made the top ten.

Friday Night Live sparked backlash after Jordan Gray stripped totally naked.

She performed on the rebooted sketch TV show Friday Night Live - hosted by Ben Elton - on Channel 4 last Friday to celebrate its 40th anniversary.

The comic, who was assigned male at birth before transitioning, took off her clothes at the end of her performance.

Leader of the Opposition Keir was sent death threats after Boris Johnson falsely claimed that he had failed to prosecute Jimmy Savile.

During a debate on the topic, Richard asked:  "Well I was going to say, actually, is that that big a deal?"
