The hosts also discussed how defenders Kyle Walker and John Stones had fallen in love with a stray tabby cat called Dave who lived near their hotel in Al Wakrah, and had decided to bring him back to England.

Sally said to sports correspondent John Watson: "Dave's done really well out of this World Cup, hasn't he?"

Jon added: "You were saying, how is it going to work?"

Sally replied: "I don't know. They'll have to do some kind of cat share, won't they, like access agreements for the cat."

Bringing Carol into the conversation, Jon said: "I know somebody else who'd like to share the cat."

Appearing on screen, Carol giggled and said: "Wasn't that cat just beautiful, isn't he, I should say.

"He's got the right equipment – he's got a nice fur coat on. Look at this temperature, minus 16 degrees at the moment!"

Meanwhile last week, Carol was left blushing after Naga Munchetty took a swipe at her age.

During a discussion about the new coins baring King Charles' image, Naga said: "There’s the nostalgia, Carol, do you know that feeling?

“Do you remember you’d get really excited because you’d have a new picture of the Royal Family or a special minted coin. You’d be excited about it and you’d keep it and not spend it.”

Seeing the humour in Naga's comment, Carol replied: “That’s absolutely right and when the new coins came out as well I remember that.

“We lost the thrup’nny bit and we picked up a half pence and a one pence.”

Naga then quickly took a cheeky swipe at Carol's age, as she said: "Oh you do go back, don't you?"

A red-faced Carol, smile and replied: "Why did I say that?"
