THE Wheel viewers broke down in tears after a contestant with a sick wife made history and won £116k.
The BBC show has had an incredible run this series, with one contestant winning £82k by answering a single question, while another smashed records by securing £96k.
However, both wins were blown out of the water on Saturday night when Jonathan decided to go big and play for £116k.
Jonathan said: "If I don’t go for it I’ll never forgive myself. That is life-changing and I would never forgive myself."
Earlier in the show, Jonathan had revealed how his wife had fallen ill in 2020, and he had quit his job as a bus and tram driver to start his own business and have more flexible hours so he could care for her.
Jonathan added that the couple had two autistic children, and when asked what he would do with the money, he said: "I would use it to secure a future for my family and buy a house.

"We live with hope. She is getting better very slowly, and life throws you curveballs and you need to take it on and just get on with it. It’s going to go a long way to providing them with a stable future."
To be in with a chance of winning the huge sum of money, he had to select the lowest scoring celebrity from the show, which was comedian Darren Harriott.
The final question was about technology, host Michael McIntyre asking: "What does the F stand for when referring to the digital assets called NFTS?"
The options were fiscal, fungible, futureproof or forgery, and Darren insisted he knew the answer.

Jonathan admitted he didn't have a clue, and Darren replied: "Oh you are going to have a blast mate. It’s fungible. I am 100% certain on this."
After it was revealed he had answered correctly and won the money, Jonathan said: "This is unbelievable, I am lost for words. It is very rare I don’t know what to say, I am very emotional. You’ve changed my life."
Viewers at home were emotional too, with one writing on Twitter: "Did not expect to be crying on my Saturday evening at #thewheel but here I am."
Another added: "Wow for Jonathan on #thewheel What an amazing win with £116,000. Was rooting for him when we heard his story!"
A third tweeted: "Jonathan deserves EVERY SINGLE PENNY in that £116k win on #TheWheel LOVE to see it."
The Wheel airs on Saturdays on BBC One and is available on BBC iPlayer.
