While Gemma initially suggested the break-up was a mutual decision, it was later revealed Luca was "blindsided" by it.

Italian stallion Davide, 27, has told how he checked in on Luca in the days after the news broke.

He said: "I had a conversation with Luca after the breakup with Gemma just to make sure he was okay."

"He was not really okay but he is now and he is getting better."

Davide added to the : "I told him, 'You had an amazing experience together and had a lovely time but if it's not something that's going to work then Gemma will find someone who is meant for her and you will find someone meant for you so there is no reason to be sad'."

A source told The Sun: "Luca had no idea that Gemma was going to end things.

"He feels really embarrassed about the whole thing. He was gushing about her at events that week - while she was planning to end it."

Speaking at ITV's Palooza, Luca said he hoped Gemma was 'the one', just hours before the relationship ended.

He said: "I hope so. You don't go into a relationship for it not to be. You always hope they are so we'll see."

The reality star told us he was going to visit Gemma the following day and even spoke of his hopes at spending their first Christmas together, saying it "would be lovely".
