George made the heartbreaking confession that as a result of the Covid restrictions, put in place by Matt, he was unable to visit and help care for his ill mother.

His beloved mum, Dinah O'Dowd, 84, has opened up about George's comments during the latest episode of the programme where he admitted to holding back his true thoughts toward Matt.

Matt received notoriety for breaking the rules he had helped to implement when The Sun exclusively exposed his affair with political aide Gina Coladangelo.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Dinah admitted to becoming emotional at seeing George on screen.

She said: "George and I are very close and I'm so very proud of him.

"He is always there for me, so his reaction wasn't a surprise, and I am waiting to hug him when he gets home."

In a candid conversation with his fellow campmate, A Place in the Sun star Scarlette Douglas, the Culture Club singer said: “You know, beginning of the pandemic my mum was in hospital. I wasn’t allowed to see her. I thought she was going to die.

"I was tweeting Greenwich hospital going, ‘Please look after my mum.’ I used my name, I was like ‘Please look after my mum.’

"And they did, she was fine… I feel like, I don’t want to be sitting here like I’m having fun with him."

He added: "It’s difficult for me because, you know, had something happened, if my mum had gone, I wouldn’t be here now. I would have gone when he walked in.”

The star's mum Dinah has been watching her son on screen each night from her London home.

Later the 80s popstar spoke in detail at the Bush Telegraph where he expressed his concerns.

“If I had lost my mum, I would go," he said.

"And I feel a little bit selfish, you know, just kind of… everyone’s so nice to him and I was like Jesus, what we gonna do?
