The best new TV to stream this week – from The Crown to Rio Ferdinand’s Tipping Point
HAVE you watched all there is to watch on Netflix and co? Well, look no further. The Sun has got you covered with the best new TV shows coming to your screens.
From The Crown which delves into the royal family's behind-the-scenes secrets to a documentary series about former Manchester United and England legend Rio Ferdinand, there’s no shortage of shows to binge-watch to your heart’s content.
The Crown (Netflix)
Series five of The Crown finally arrives and all that controversy’s justified, given the recent upheaval within the real-life monarchy, and the edginess of some scenes here.
The show’s always drawn clumsy parallels between events in Britain and events within the Royal Family.
There is very heavy-handed comparison between the ageing Royal Yacht Britannia and the ageing Queen.
Viewers also see a growing William and Harry torn between their estranged parents, whose marriage is miserable.
It’s all very soapy and scandalous… just remember it’s also a drama.
Available to watch from Wednesday.
Mammals (Amazon Prime)
With his exit from The Late Late Show looming, James Corden reminds the world about his acting talents in this tasty new comedy drama.
He plays Jamie, a brilliant chef whose idyllic world suddenly hits the skids when he discovers something shocking about his wife, Amandine.
Written by Jez Butterworth, the man behind Britannia and much-praised West End smash hit Jerusalem, there’s a delicious darkness woven into the comedy, as the less flattering realities of longterm romance and monogamy are picked apart with expert precision.
While much of the attention is sure to be focussed on James, who grows into the role of an increasingly jealous Jamie, the real stars of the show are Sally Hawkins as Jamie’s detached Coco Chanel-obsessed sister Lue and Melia Kreiling as the magnetic and mysterious Amandine.
Throw in more twists than a garden hose, and the kind of cliffhanger episode endings that force you to hit the ‘next episode’ button, and Mammals is a clever and cutting comedy thriller.
Available to watch from Friday.
Mythic Quest (Apple TV)
The smart and sharp US sitcom about a dysfunctional team of computer game developers reaches its third season.
Ian (Rob McElhenney) and Poppy (Charlotte Nicdao) are trying to make things work at the newly formed GrimPop Studios - but their constant bickering is making life more than a little irritating for Dana.
Meanwhile, David (David Hornsby) is settling into being boss at Mythic Quest, with Jo (Jessie Ennis) back as his assistant, and Brad (Danny Pudi), fresh from prison, tries to return to society.
Available to watch from Friday.
Rio Ferdinand’s Tipping Point (Amazon Prime)
Rio Ferdinand has never been one to hold back when expressing his opinions about the sport he loves.
And in his new three-part documentary series, the former Manchester United and England legend gets stuck into some of the key issues facing football right now.
Over the three episodes, he asks why racism in football is getting worse, why there are no openly gay footballers in the Premier League and why there is an unreported mental health crisis in academy football right now.
Featuring interviews with elite players, fans and organisation representatives, it’s an intriguing and important snapshot of the state of the modern game.
Available to watch from Friday.

Dangerous Liaisons (Lionsgate+)
For those of a certain age, Dangerous Liaisons is sure to conjure images of Glenn Close and John Malkovich prancing about in towering wigs and heels, with heavily powdered faces.
Poor but hopeful of a better future, a couple plan to flee Paris together, until jealousy and distrust suddenly tear them apart.
It’s highly charged, raunchy stuff, brimming with intrigue, lust and betrayal, and bursting with gorgeous clothes, more of those towering wigs and grand, candlelit homes.
Admittedly, some may find the show’s seriousness a little heavy, and it can be hard to love such manipulative characters.
Seductive and stylish, making a date with Dangerous Liaisons is definitely worth the risk.
Available to watch from Sunday.
Save Our Squad with David Beckham (Disney+)
He’s played for some of the world’s biggest football teams, but global icon David Beckham jumped at the chance to mentor the players of a struggling east London youth side, Westward Boys, who compete in the same league where his own footballing journey began in the 1980s.
“I’ve always wanted to give back to grassroots football because grassroots football has given so much to me,” says the former England and Manchester United legend, 47, whose first taste of competitive football came as a seven year old playing for Ridgeway Rovers in the Echo League.
“I know how important it is for kids, I know how important it is for families and parents to know that it gives kids the opportunity for an avenue in to playing professional football.
"It also brings a community together, with not just the players but the parents as well. Grassroots football is so important.
“Going back to east London is always special for me, but going back with the boys, going back to this league, it was an extra-special moment.
"The fact that we shot this series in the place where I grew up as a kid, where I trained, felt like a full-circle moment.”
Available to watch from Wednesday.
From Scratch (Netflix)
Zoe Saldana stars in this sun-soaked but tear-stained romantic drama that’s based on a true story.
When artist Amy (Saldana) moves to Italy to study, she falls for handsome chef Lino (Eugenio Mastrandrea).
However, when tragedy strikes, it looks like their happiness will be short lived.
Emotional.
