The character portrayed by Danielle Harold was diagnosed with a brain tumour in earlier episodes of the long-running drama.

Doctors warned her she had to stay in hospital until the day of her operation.

Thankfully for her, Lola wasn't alone as her partner Jay Brown (played by Jamie Borthwick) spent time with her prior to the surgery.

The pair discussed their future, with the mechanic insisting he would be waiting for Lola to wake up.

Lola prepared herself for her surgery on Tuesday's instalment of the soap.

But as she did so, BBC One viewers picked up on one minor detail and took to Twitter to express their disbelief.

Lola confused viewers when she was clearly seen with long, bright pink, almond-shaped nails.

Nail polish and acrylic nails aren't recommended in the operating room as the pulse oximeter - used to measure oxygen levels in the blood - is usually placed on one's finger.

Remembering this, one viewer commented: "Isn't Lola supposed to have her nail polish removed before surgery?"

Another echoed: "Oh EastEnders you could have at least taken Lola’s nail varnish off its a definite no no when having an operation."

"Need to take Lola's nail varnish off before surgery It's the small details," a third viewer chimed in.

The episode ended with Lola being taken to her surgery and Jay waiting outside as he made a heart sign with his hands through the window.

The lovebirds only had a short time to enjoy their rekindled romance before Lola was diagnosed with her tumour.
