Bake Off fans all have same complaint as contestants struggle through ‘impossible’ pastry challenge
GREAT British Bake Off fans have hit back at Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith as show ‘doesn’t give bakers enough time’ to make the tasks they’re set.
As the temperature heated up in the tent as the quarter finals dawned on them, Pastry Week set a new set of tests including vol-au-vents, spring rolls and a “pie-scape” based on a childhood storybook or nursery rhyme.
However, all remaining five contestants found themselves in trouble throughout the tasks, with Paul in particular demanding “pastry nirvana” and criticising them for not rising to the challenge.
When it came to deliberations, Prue declared the week “really disappointing” saying three out of the five showstopper pastries weren’t good enough and often dry.
But viewers were quick to defend the remaining five bakers, believing the challenges were practically impossible given the time limits they had to make their latest creations.
“Star Baker is honestly going to be a tough one this week given that nobody’s had enough time to do anything right,” wrote one.
“[Bake Off] becomes more and more like mission impossible every week, yet the judges complain that they’re disappointed with the results,” said a second.
Another added: “This in an issue for the last few episodes , they’re just not getting enough time.”
“If they’re struggling with time then maybe you haven’t given them enough,’ said a third.
Others were getting ready to quit the show completely, commenting: “Starting to get bored of these silly challenges now. Make this in the shape of etc. I miss the challenges of the earlier years. Least they usually had enough time to make something half decent.”
While another said: “That’s it, I give up on #GBBO . They are deliberately giving the bakers not enough time to do the challenges and then criticising them for their bakes not being perfect. I don’t watch Bake Off to see people stressed out and upset.”
This was somewhat mimicked on screen, when during the practical challenge, Syabira hit back at Paul who told her she was “two minutes away from perfection.”
Clearly feeling the pressure, she responded: “If I had two minutes.”
She later declared of the technical: “I don’t know how people can make this in one hour and twenty minutes.”
At the end of the episode, Syabira was once again given the title of star baker, while Maxy was eliminated competition.
As they said their goodbyes, Prue made a comment to Sandro that he was a “lucky boy” while Paul told cameras he needed to “watch it” to make it to the finals.
Sandro, Syabira, Janusz and Abdul all remain in the competition.
Great British Bake Off continues Tuesdays at 8pm on Channel 4.
