The Voice UK winner Anthonia Edwards reveals plans to return to ‘normal job’ after winning ITV show
THE Voice UK’s latest winner has expressed her desire to return to her old profession despite only just winning the singing contest.
Anthonia Edwards, 25, was coached by Sir Tom Jones on the ITV singing programme and was crowned champion during Saturday night’s final securing a life-changing record contract.
However despite proving triumphant, Anthonia opened up about the love of her old profession and told the PA news agency she was keen to stick with that line of work despite her new found fame.
Anthonia was a student nurse when she applied for the show and admitted she did not foresee what was to come.
In a candid chat, she said: “I was a student nurse at the time when I applied and obviously we had just come off the back of Covid and how tense it was and I knew I was about to graduate so I wanted to do something different just before I go into my nursing career.
“I didn’t expect to win, I just wanted to have fun and explore my artistry, the whole process has just been incredible. Each stage progressing shocked me."

Despite admitting her love for nursing, the singer said that she would give music her best shot now she has been given such a big platform and confirmed she was remaining committed to pursuing a music career.
She said: "I’m someone that likes to not do things in half and now that I won, I want to give my music the time to be what it is, but nursing is still one of my great passions.
“I love healthcare, I love caring for people and helping them through whatever it is that’s going on in a holistic way. I don’t know what the future holds but I think I will be involved in healthcare in some way, but for now it’s music music music.”
Anthonia admitted that nursing during the Covid pandemic was tough but explained how it allowed her to write and create songs from an emotional place and draw on real-life experiences that she had witnessed in the workplace.

The Voice star said: “I think music is one of those great weights where you invoke metaphors to process what you’re going through.
“Music has always been one of the ways I process my emotions. Especially the last couple of years has been more healthcare focused, music was just a great way to process what’s going on.
“I think my music is quite relatable, looking at the highs and lows sometimes the feelings of anxiety, feelings of loss that one might feel.”
Anthonia made Tom a winning coach for the third time as she triumphed over Olly Murs’ act David Adeogun in an incredible tense final.
During the final Anthonia performed When The Party’s Over by Billie Eilish before following it up with a sensational duet with her coach Sir Tom to It’s A Man’s Man’s World by James Brown.
