James and pro partner Amy Dowden tried to impress with their Charleston to Bumble Bee by LaVern Baker.

Fighting for survival, Fleur and Vito Coppola performed a Salsa to Break My Soul by Beyonce.

After battling it out in the dance off, the judges unanimously saved Fleur and James was eliminated.

During his exit speech, an emotional James said: "All I could do was go out there and do my best.

"I'm dancing against Fleur East; I went out there and give it my best but she was phenomenal, so I was up against it anyway.

"I had the best time on the show, I've got a friend for life, all I can do is thank the family."

Host Tess Daly said: "When you came to us, you had two priorities, one was to have fun and two was to make your boys proud."

James - who has three sons with wife Victoria - welled up as he addressed Tess' comment.

Breaking down in tears, the actor said: "Don't say that Tess."

Pro dancer Any added: "You came in here to show your boys you can throw yourself into any challenge, you're the best role model they could ever have, you're positive, you're fun, thank you."

Getting choked up, James was forced to wipe away his tears as he took to the dancefloor for his final dance.

Strictly fans raced to Twitter claiming James was stitched up with his song choice and costume.

One wrote: "I can't believe James was voted out and Tony Adams is still there. #fix #strictly"

Another posted: "I do feel sorry for James and Amy...they were given an awful song, weak choreography and poor costumes #Strictly"

A third said: "I think James was ill-served by the song and theme this week. The bumblebee thing is ridiculous and not at all Halloween and nobody knows the song. #strictly"

"#strictly Poor James, Who would have thought that a Apiculture-themed routine wouldn't resonate with the public? I mean, we see beehives everywhere at Halloween, don't we?," a fourth commented.

Another fumed: "Have to say I really don’t get what this bee routine from James and Amy has to do with Halloween? The song isn’t that great either, not surprised they’re in the bottom two this week not their best routine music and theming let them down #strictly"

Last night, Strictly fans were left "confused" following James' performance that had fans questioning the decision to have a bee theme.

James and Amy performed their Halloween Strictly routine dressed as a beekeeper and a bee, however fans took to social media criticising the decision.

A second added: "James’s bee costume nonsense is the same as Richie’s Lion King nonsense. He’s probably going home. #Strictly."

Third asked: "What is this song? What is this theme? What have bees got to do with Halloween? I am so confused…"
