It breached the BBC’s strict advertising rules.

Tony failed to cover up his brand logo on a white T-shirt and a pale blue shirt during footage, seen by nearly nine million viewers, of rehearsals with pro partner Katya Jones.

A show insider said: “Tony wasn’t clear on the rules.

“He didn’t think he was doing any harm.

“He was just dancing in clothes he feels comfortable in, which just happened to be part of his collection.

“Strictly bosses are going to have a word with him and ensure he’s in line with their rules for this weekend’s show.”

Tony has covered up branding on clothes he has worn from other sportswear firms during rehearsals earlier in the series, including an Umbro England top he played in during the 1998 World Cup.

He even wore an England tracksuit top back-to-front for one on-camera piece to hide the obvious branding.

Tony launched his clothes collection in 2019.

He used his children to model the range as part of an advertising push and the clothes are available to buy on his website, alongside his best-selling books.

The logo depicts his Arsenal No6 shirt number and his goal celebration against Everton in 1998, when he scored the final goal in a 4-0 win to secure the Gunners’ Premier League title.

In 2011, the celebration was immortalised in a statue outside the Emirates Stadium.

The one-club-man made 669 appearances for Arsenal, winning ten major honours.

Tony will be hoping to add the Strictly glitterball to his haul of trophies having progressed to the next week of the competition.

Despite being bottom of the leaderboard following his cha-cha-cha to the Grandstand theme, Tony and Katya managed to avoid the dreaded dance-off for another week.

Head judge Shirley Ballas told him: “I love you dearly.

"Keep going because you’re what the show is all about.”

The pair are 40-1 to win, with CBBC star Hamza Yassin and pro partner Jowita Przystał the clear bookies’ favourites.

The BBC declined to comment.
