'worst moment in my life'

I broke down in tears and was put on 24/7 watch at MAFS UK Reunion after bombshell secret about my mum, says Matt Murray

MARRIED at First Sight star Matt Murray has admitted he was under supervision from the show's welfare team after breaking down at the Reunion.

The controversial character had been told his cancer-stricken mum was starting treatment said to be her "last chance".

He became overwhelmed with emotion and lashed out at his co-stars as he struggled to cope with his family's heartbreak.

After leaving the Reunion Dinner Party following a bust-up with Gemma and Sophie, Matt sparked concern from producers.

Welfare experts were sent in to check on him throughout the night at his hotel.

The next day he shocked his co-stars by quitting the Reunion show early.

In an exclusive interview with The Sun, Matt said: "Given the pressures of the show coming to a head and having to discuss my heartbreaking break up with Whitney in front of everyone, I just became overwhelmed with emotion.

"I’d recently just been told the cancer treatment mum is on now is her last hope and was having a hard time processing that information.

"She’s my mum and no one wants to think about their parents dying.

"It broke me and it’s honestly the worst moment in my life, I’ve never felt like that before.

"Then add the experiment on top and it's a sure fire way for anyone to feel vulnerable and emotional."

On the second episode of the Reunion, stars met with the matchmakers to discuss their relationships.

Kicking it off, Matt offered an apology to the group for his "unacceptable" behaviour.

"I became overwhelmed by all that hurting and cried a lot," Matt admitted.

"Yes I know, a guy my size actually has emotions, tattooed bearded big blokes do cry.

"I couldn’t ‘man up’ in that situation, everything was too much, but I don’t believe anyone should feel like they should bottle up feelings. Especially when they’re in that much pain."

Insiders at MAFS UK accused Matt of making an early exit following "sexist" comments made during filming.

Matt opened up today to explain to fans about his emotional state.

He insists he's done "nothing wrong" - but admits deciding to leave early after tensions with the group.

He told us: "I know there’s been rumours online with fans thinking I did something wrong or whatever, but I didn’t. I just didn’t want to sit there bawling my eyes out the whole time.

"It came out of no where and I think I just needed to let it all out.

"But I didn’t want to do that in front of the group and especially not on camera, so I had a chat with the team and they respected my request and I left.

"There was no drama, nothing bad happened during filming, only in my personal life and I just needed some space and time to process that pain.

"I needed to leave that bubble and try and work on myself and attempt some sort of healing process."

Matt finished the E4 experiment declaring he was still "in love" with Whitney - despite a tricky time which saw them split with their original show partners.

But at the Reunion, the couple explained their relationship hadn't lasted the distance.

The Sun revealed Matt "is having a secret romance" with Marilyse Corrigan, 38, from the 2021 series.

The pair have jetted off on a holiday, say friends, and both shared snaps heading to a foreign country.

Marilyse posed in a baggy cream jumper and a cap as she told fans it was “holiday time,” while Matt shared a photo of a plane getting ready to take off.
