In her summary of the weather ahead, Laura told Good Morning Britain viewers: "For our mature viewers, people in my bracket, 20/22 [Celsius], what's that, 68/70 in Fahrenheit?"

After admitting she wasn't clued up on the alternative form of measurement, Richard hit back: "You're joking, you're a weather person and you don't know Fahrenheit?

"Let me tell you, 20 is 68 and 21 is 70."

Richard's co-host Susanna Reid attempted to continue the segment smoothly as she interjected: "From bringing back Fahrenheit to bringing back Boris."

Susanna was referring to calls for former Prime Minister Boris Johnson - who won the largest election mandate since Margaret Thatcher in 2019 - to replace Liz Truss in the current role.

Meanwhile, the Fahrenheit scale is a temperature measurement based on one proposed in 1724 by physicist Daniel Gabriel Fahrenheit.

Yet Celcius is a measurement on the Celcius scale.

One fan accused Richard of "promoting Fahrenheit" with his comments as another added: "Jesus Christ why is this dinosaur Richard Madeley still on my screen?? Why is he rambling on about Fahrenheit?? He’s so embarrassing #GMB."

Yet both represent the two main ways to measure temperature.

The one officially used and recognised in the UK is Celsius but many other places around the world use the Fahrenheit scale.

If the temperature is 0 degrees Celsius then it will be 32 degrees Fahrenheit.

In order to convert a temperature from Celsius to Fahrenheit, multiply the °C temperature by 1.8 and add 32 to the number.

Richard was on-set on Monday as more chaos was called when the ITV set appeared to collapse.

Richard was forced to apologise to viewers after a loud bang interrupted the news bulletin.

Susanna had seen it happen out of the corner of her eye and jumped in: "It's alright we've just upended a table."

A flustered Richard continued: "Take the table. It's alright. Nothing to see here. Sean is sorting it out."
