EMMERDALE fans have been left horrified by tonight's episode after being left sickened by the supposed death of a fan favourite.
In gruesome scenes, the ITV soap saw the sweet-natured Sam Dingle impaled on a digger as he tried to escape a cow stampede.
Farmer Sam was caught up at Moira Dingle’s farm after jumping over hay bales.
He, sister Belle and cousin Nate Robinson fled from the cows with Belle sheltering behind a gate and Nate being trampled.
By the end of the episode it emerged that Sam had landed on a sharp digger - and was left hanging lifeless with a spoke through his chest.
The sight of his body dangling with such a huge wound left fans feeling ill.
And they have vowed to complain to Ofcom over the gruesome scenes.
One wrote: "OMG not Sam too seriously? The Dingle's literally just lost poor Faith. Haven't they suffered morw than enough already recently?"
A second said: "My 12 year old is crying her eyes out #Emmerdale hope Sam Dingle is OK"
Another added: "Sam dingle better be ok Emmerdale. For god sake I didn’t expect that.. what you’ve put him through over the years with his wife dying of cancer and killing him like this. pray for Sam"

Meanwhile the soap also confirmed the dramatic week’s first death as Harriet Finch was killed after a quad bike accident.
The former vicar crashed her bike and was subsequently crushed by it while searching for pregnant teenager Amelia Spencer.
Love rival Kim Tate tried to save her but a lightning strike caused the bike to explode and killed Harriet.
Kim recovered but upon her return to Home Farm, was forced to break the news to Harriet’s family.
Emmerdale continues weekdays at 7pm on ITV.
