GREAT British Bake Off viewers were far from impressed when this weeks’ bakers were given no help at all in the technical challenge.

In this week’s Dessert Week, the remaining competitors were to they had to create a lemon meringue pie for their second task of the week.

However, it seems the Bake Off team were ready to mix things up a little for the cast, and when it came to looking at the recipe they had to follow, all they found was an oven temperature, and the instruction to “make a lemon meringue pie”.

The pressure was even higher considering Prue declared it "her favourite pud" and told them to "read the recipe very carefully".

Normally in a technical, the bakers are given vague directions on what to do – even if it just extends to the order in which to do things, rather than the measurements and timings.

But this definitely took things to a whole new level, with viewers at home baffled with how those who have never made the dish before are supposed to get their heads around it.

Naturally, this meant one thing – uniting in their frustrations on Twitter.

"Next year, I think they’ll start writing the Technical challenge recipes in riddle form #GBBO,” wrote one annoyed viewer.

Another joked: “The Lemon Meringue Pie instructions, like when my wife ask me to get her "something nice" from the shop”

“The Revolution will be lead by a polite older woman forced to make a lemon meringue pie without a recipe,” said a third viewer.

While a fourth noted: “I was gonna say Lemon Meringue pie is a bit easy for a technical. But that recipe [crying laughing] soggy bottoms incoming…”

Others felt a bit more sympathy, adding it was “a bit unfair to some bakers to suddenly decide not to give a recipe in technical this week.”

And let’s face it – the challenge definitely delivered a mix of results. Even from those who were certain they would come out on top.

While Dawn boasted she had made hundreds of lemon meringues over the years, making it a regular dish for her pals each week, she was left “fuming” when she came second from the bottom for not having enough filling.

The only person to fare worse was Syabira, whose base was too raw and too thick for the judges liking. In her defence, she had never tried baking a lemon meringue before, and had to rely on instinct compared to the others in the game.

Janusz came out on top, continuing his streak of being one of the strongest competitors this series.

Unfortunately the series had to say goodbye to another contestant this week, with Carole being given the boot in an emotional farewell.

Great British Bake Off continues Tuesdays at 8.00pm on Channel 4.
