I was on GBBO 2021 and here is why I wouldn’t have applied for the show this year

GREAT British Bake Off 2021 star Jürgen Krauss has revealed why he would NOT have applied for the show this year.

The 57-year-old took part in the Channel 4 programme when strict Covid rules were put in place.

During 2020, many of our favourite programmes were cancelled or put on hold because of the pandemic.

But GBBO managed to keep running because of the regulations that were put in place to stop the spread of the virus.

The tent moved to Down Hall Hotel in Essex in 2020 and 2021 so that the cast and crew could isolate with each other before filming began, meaning that they created a Covid-safe bubble.

Sussex-based Jürgen confessed that the set-up appealed to him more than being filmed at Welford Park, the show's main location between 2014 and 2019.

"I wouldn't apply if it was like the normal case, where you do your life during the week," he told us during an exclusive chat.

He saw the change in location as a huge positive for him.

"We filmed in a bubble and that was very good for me, I don't think I would have applied otherwise," Jürgen confessed.

"So the environment of the bubble was very helpful to me and working, I think it really allowed me to focus on baking all the time, my family did their best to keep everyday chores from me.

"We had zooms every night, so they knew what was going on in the tent, and I knew some things of what was going on at home, and things that I would have to worry about.

"Baking paradise if you want, stressful, but very focused and I enjoyed it."

The fact that their time on the show was different to the other years meant that Jürgen and the 11 other bakers were able to bake with each other.

He said: "It also gave us the huge opportunity to get to know each other much better.

"Well, while baking in the test kitchen helped us develop this kind of interplay, friendships, we helped each other, we ran our ideas past each other, we tried each other's stuff."

The bakers were able to socialise a lot more because of the circumstances and had "a bit of organised fun".

They were even treated to a pizza night organised by judge Paul Hollywood and the production staff.

The party was held at the hotel's park and all different types of pizza were available to eat.

Since shooting to fame last year, fan favourite Jürgen has done some very exciting things.
