CHANNEL 5's new drama Maxine was tonight branded "shameful" by shocked viewers.
The series focuses on Maxine Carr, the woman who gave her ex-boyfriend Ian Huntley an alibi after he murdered Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman.
Starring newcomer Jemma Carlton in the title role, Maxine is based on horrific real life events that gripped the UK back in 2002.
Former teacher’s assistant Carr — dubbed the most hated woman in Britain — was the fiancée of child murderer Huntley.
She was caged for three-and-a-half years for giving evil Huntley an alibi after he killed ten-year-old schoolgirls Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman in Soham in August 2002.
Holly and Jessica were found dumped in a ditch two weeks after they vanished from a family barbecue, with Huntley locked up for a minimum of 40 years.
