Fleur, 34, faced Richie and his dance partner Giovanni Pernice in a tense dance off before she was saved by the panel.

The Favourite Thing singer landed herself in the bottom two after their movie-themed dance inspired by The Little Mermaid.

Taking to Twitter, Fleur reacted to being saved in the dance off with a photograph of herself and dance partner Vito Coppola.

"So grateful to have been saved by the judges. So sad to see my friend Richie go!" she wrote to her fans.

"Thank you for all of your supportive messages, we will work really hard this week #StrictlyComeDancing."

Her fans and friends flooded the comments to gush over her performance, calling her "brilliant" and that they were "proud" of her.

It comes after Strictly fans were left in shock to see Fleur in the bottom two over the weekend.

Many viewers suggested that Fleur ended up risking elimination due to a secret feud between her and head judge Shirley Ballas.

The BBC dancing series is known to deliver some shockers, but neither viewers nor the judges were prepared for X Factor star Fleur landing in the bottom two alongside radio fave Richie Anderson.

In the end, after a particularly tense dance-off, the fate of the celebrities' futures on the show were left in the hands of the judges, and they chose to save Fleur.

However, there was one judge who didn't agree with the decision on Sunday's Strictly Come Dancing.

Shirley declared: "Well with the two couples the public put in the bottom two I would have saved Richie and Giovanni."

By that point it was too late, with the majority vote overruling her own, but the choice seemed an odd one to the viewers who almost all agreed that Fleur was the one that deserved to stay.

Some said that the comment from the head judge was a sign of a feud between Shirley and Fleur behind the scenes.

"Shirley surely would never have chosen Richie over Fleur in that dance off? Fleur is an equisite dancer, what on earth?" wrote one confused viewer.

"Richie & giovanni and fleur & vito shouldn’t have been in the dance off and richie shouldn’t have gone this early but for shirley to say she’d have saved richie over fleur east ?! helloo wha [sic]" said another.

A third said: "I would of liked more information from Shirley to explain on what ground was Richie’s dance better than Fleur?. Nothing against Richie or Shirley, but I am struggling to understand how his dance was better?"
