William’s character is the young son of Ste Hay, played by Keiron Richardson, on the soap, but instead of being recast it’s rumoured he’ll make a permanent exit from the village.

William took to social media to reveal the news, writing: “Thats a wrap on #lucashay wow it’s been an amazing 9 years playing this character and not one moment has been bad.

“Honestly, I am so happy to be able to say I have been part of the Hollyoaks family and although it is sad I’m leaving, I’m leaving with happy memories. Thank you to everyone who has supported me over the years, it means a lot.

“Can’t wait to see what the future brings and to share it with you!”

William can be seen posing in two snaps side by side in the post – one when he very first started as a very young boy, standing next to the Hollyoaks sign.

In the second snap he looks a lot older and points at the same sign some years later.

The youngster shared a string of images from his time on the set, including posing with fellow stars and standing in different parts of the village.

He also appears on the red carpet looking smart in one of his pictures shared.

William’s co-stars congratulated him in the comments section, including Erin Palmer, who plays Ella Richardson, who wrote: “We will all miss you Will. Good luck in the future.”

Ela-May Demircan, who plays Will’s on screen sister Leah, commented: “I’ve adored having you as my onscreen brother William, sending all my love your way.”

Jayden Fox, who plays Bobby Costello, said: “Good luck Will.” And Duncan James, who played Will’s on screen step-dad, posted: “Awww congrats Will.”

It’s believed William wanted to leave in a bid to focus on his schoolwork.

William was the third actor to play the character of Lucas Hay. He took over the role from child actor Reuben Thwaites in early 2014.

He is also the 20th regular cast member to leave the soap this year.

Some of the other Hollyoaks stars to leave the show recently include Nadina Mulkerrin, Gary Lucy, Lysette Anthony, Denise Welch and David Tag.
