Grand Designs ‘saddest ever home’ branded ‘eyesore’ and ‘blot on the lanscape’ by furious locals

GRAND DESIGN's home has been described as an "eyesore" and a "blot on the landscape" - with the house on the market for £10million.

Up until 2019 Croyde Bay was best known for being one of the UK's perfect surfing beaches.

With stunning views and sandy dunes, families from all over the country come to the seaside town every year.

But after it was taken over by Grand Designs' presenter Kevin McCloud, the village became famous for other reasons and lost it's identity.

Chesil Cliff House owner Edward Short had dreams for a clifftop mansion with panoramic views across the ocean.

However due to it being delayed and high costs of renovation, the building came to an end which resulted in Mr Short racking up debt and even loosing his marriage.

Many of the locals were not impressed with the unfinished project and dubbed it as an "eyesore" and a "blot on the landscape", even though the house is on sale for £10million.

Talking about the cursed home, one angry man said: "It's still a blot on the landscape - even now it's been finished."

"It's an eyesore. If I won the EuroMillions I would buy it just to knock it down for the village's sake.

"He had a perfectly good house there when he bought it. There was absolutely no need to build the new house."

One lady was shocked at how it all went wrong.

She said: "It's crazy. He never had the money to do it in the first place. He's lost his wife and all for a house."

The infamous episode featuring the uncompleted home, got everyone talking including one surfer who said: " It's a mad story. I watched the episode. He must've had something wrong with his brain. He lost everything didn't he?"

He went to say he would've personally stopped the build the moment they it needed that much money spent to reinforce the building.

Adding: "I saw it was up for sale for 10million but the advert said it was an opportunity to design your own finish. What does that mean? Sounds incomplete to me. I'm not sure it will sell for that price."

Despite many of the locals hating the house and wanting it destroyed, It's been dubbed as the "most expensive property in the area full stop" according to property consultant Nic Chbat from Match Property.co.uk, who explains that this property will remain at high value for a "long time to come" in Cliff Chessil.

He added: "The nearest property to it is worth £5 million. It's double because of the location."

The property consultant even went far to brand the property Edward built "phenomenal" and "notorious".

Nic also revealed that potential buyers aren't wanting to buy the infamous home "because of the views". They want to live there " because of the notoriety."
