Oscar - a rescue lurcher - had been brought in by his distraught owner after being attacked by another pooch.

The camera zoomed in on Oscar's open wounds as one of the vets said: "It's obviously grabbed him and then ragged him."

Speaking to the camera, Oscar's owner Ian said: "It was absolutely horrendous really, I'm still in shock to be honest.

"I was taking Oscar on a short walk on my lunch break and we were just wandering along a route we go along quite often and I could see in the distance a couple of dogs playing with a girl, and I thought nothing of it.

"But all of a sudden, one dog had charged over to us and just went straight into Oscar and attacked him."

The vet then told viewers how some of Oscar's injuries were minor and could be cleaned up.

But he added: "There are several larger ones so we're just going to get him ready for surgery now and on some nice, strong pain relief."

His colleague then said she wasn't sure if Oscar's skin was even attached to the muscle any more on the deepest wound.

Meanwhile his owner added: "It was chaos, absolutely horrendous and the other dog was running around barking.

"Luckily the girl managed to drag the brown dog off Oscar but he was howling and screaming, it was terrible."

The vets quickly got to work quickly to stop the open wounds getting infected but admitted it was "a lot trickier than I originally thought";.

Thankfully he worked his magic and by the end of the episode, Oscar was seen back to his happy, content self, although Ian did admit his dog was a little more nervous around other canines than he used to be since the attack.

The Yorkshire Vet viewers took to Twitter to comment on poor Oscar's traumatic experience, with one writing: "#theyorkshirevet Lovely to see the dog that was attacked back to enjoying life but the dog that attacked really needs addressing. They’re a danger. @theyorkshirevet."

Another added: "Look at Oscar ❤️ Great job guys 👍."

A third simply tweeted: "Oscar" alongside a love heart emoji.
