ITV boss insists Holly and Phil’s jobs on This Morning are ‘secure’ and says queue jump row was ‘horrible for them’
HOLLY Willoughby and Phillip Schofield's jobs on This Morning are "secure" after queue-gate, the ITV boss has insisted.
The beleaguered This Morning duo have been the subject of an intense backlash over the last week, following accusations they jumped the queue to see the Queen lying in state.
Holly, 41, and Phillip, 60, have vehemently denied any wrongdoing and have received the full backing of ITV, but the pair have still had to deal the stress of a petition to get them sacked.
Speaking at the Royal Television Society convention in London, Dame Carolyn McCall - CEO of ITV - reassured fans that duo are safe.
She said: "Holly and Phil did nothing wrong. They had accreditation, they were sent to do a piece which ran.
"They were to interview people inside and outside and did not displace anyone in the queue."
She added: "Holly and Phil have been very misrepresented which is why we made a statement. It just shows how misinformation spreads."
A few days ago, the petition to have the presenters fired from the show hit more than 65k signatures.
It has now reached an even higher figure and soared to 75,000 signatures from fans furious over the queue scandal.
The original target of the petition was 15,000, which was reached on quickly and figures continued to grow.
