VERA'S Brenda Blethyn has sparked fan panic after she confirmed filming has 'wrapped' in a major show update.

The 76-year-old actress as played the titular detective since 2011 and Vera fans have been desperate for updates on when she will be back on screen in the role.

The final two episodes of series 11 are still to air after being delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

It has left viewers fearing for the future of the show, and one fan called Danielle tweeted Brenda to ask: "Is there going to be another season of Vera? I need to know."

Brenda was quick to reply, writing: "Yes Danielle. Series 12. Wrapped on episode 50 of VERA last week."

Her comments sent fans into a spin, with one writing back: "Squeeeeeeeeeeeal!"

Another added that they "can't wait" while a third tweeted: "Great news, but I wonder how long before we here in Australia get to see them?"

It isn't clear at the moment how many episodes there will be in series 12 and when they will air.

Last month, Brenda was spotted by police filming scenes for the twelfth season.

The actress was stopped to pose for a photo on set while wearing her signature attire.

Northumbria Police’s official Twitter page shared the rare behind-the-scenes image with the caption: “PC Steve West was out on patrol when he spotted a familiar face in #Blyth.

“None other than Brenda Blethyn, the actress who plays famous TV detective Vera, stopped for a photo & a chat.
