Who is Francesco Mazzei?

Francesco Mazzei is a Calabrian born chef who was raised with a passion for food.

It was at the age of fourteen where his natural talent was recognised by renowned Italian chef, Angelo Sabetto, who encouraged Francesco’s journey into becoming a chef himself.

Since completing college and moving to Rome in 1992, Francesco has gone on to travel the world, working alongside a number of renowned chefs in a selection of award-winning restaurants.

His restaurant L'Anima was open from 2008 to 2015 and had a menu inspired by traditional cooking from Calabria, Puglia, Sicily and Sardinia.

Following the closing of L'Anima he went on to release his first cookbook Mezzogiorno: Francesco Mazzei Recipes from Southern Italy.

He then opened Southern Italian restaurants Radici in Islington and Fiume in Battersea in 2017.

In 2019 the President Sergio Mattarella awarded him the OMRI (Order of Merit of the Italian Republic).

Which restaurants has Francesco worked in?

Francesco has worked in a number of award winning restruants all over the world.

The restaurants he has worked in includes The Dorchester in Mayfair, the Michelin-starred Eden Terazza in Rome, Hakkasan in Istanbul and Miami, and the Santini Restaurants in London, Edinburgh and Milan.

These are just some of the celebrated places the 49-year-old has contributed to over the years before opening L'Anima in 2008.

Which TV shows has Francesco been in?

Francesco became a regular feature on BBC shows including Saturday Kitchen, MasterChef, and The James Martin Show.

He also featured on the Italian edition of Hell’s Kitchen with Carlo Cracco.

Is Francesco married and does he have children?

Francesco is married to Maria Conte.

The pair have two children together, daughter Mia, and son Gabry.

The chef often post photos of his family on his Instagram displaying his love for them.
