“Appalled” Clarkson and May berated him for taking up the sport, but Hammond claims he feels “liberated” for confessing his new love.

Richard, 52, told the Rick Shiels Golf Show podcast he had hated golf but fell in love with the sport after going on holiday with mates in the South of France.

He recalled how he later told the pair of his passion after taking two lessons.
