Ben captioned the snaps: "Not the French cuisine I had in mind for 1st day of our family holiday!!

"Managed to acquire an open fracture/dislocation on the water slide, and for those not in the know that means the bone was sticking out the skin 🤢.

"Word to the wise, don’t forget your travel insurance this summer. Have fun out there guys 😉. Hats off to the French healthcare/emergency services."

Now, Ben has given fans an update on his injuries and shared pictures on his Instagram Stories of his thumb after a metal rod was taken out.

Lying in bed at Worthing hospital, Ben wrote: "4 weeks on from the accident and the metal rod is coming out."

He then shared a video reenactment of the metal rod being pulled out and joked: "And I didn’t even get a sticker for bravery. Thank you #NHS”.

He then compared his injured thumb to the one on his other hand, which was much smaller than the one which had been dislocated.

He quipped: "My thumb seems to have grown."
