I’m not worried about the Strictly curse at all, I just want to have fun, says pop god Matt Goss
POP star Matt Goss has insisted he is not worried about the famous Strictly curse — and says he just wants to have fun.
The 53-year-old Bros singer has revealed his jewellery designer girlfriend Chantal Brown is backing him all the way on the show.
Fresh from swapping Las Vegas — where he has had an 11-year sell-out residency — for London, Matt is ready to take the dancefloor by storm and is even releasing new music ahead of the show launch.
He said: “The Strictly curse doesn’t concern me at all.
“I’m there to learn and that’s it. I respect the dancers and their ability. I want to do my best.
“Chantal is very supportive. She wants me to smash it. She is going to come and watch.

“She says, ‘go and have the best time. I want you to have an amazing experience’.
“I’d like to get as far as I can. I’m not doing Strictly to lose it, I’m doing Strictly to get to the end.
“But I also have a tremendous amount of respect for all the other contestants.”
Matt, who found huge fame in the 1980s when Brosmania gripped the nation, added: “Hopefully I’ll have fun too.

“I love commanding a stage and I love changing the shape of an audience, transporting and elevating them.”
Matt is getting used to his bittersweet relocation to London, where he was born.
He admits it has been a struggle to deal with memories of his mother Carol, who died in 2014 of breast cancer.
Confessing she is one of the reasons he signed up to the BBC One show, he said: “I feel highly observed by my mother. I say that with peace, I don’t say it from a sad place.
“I feel very observed from a much higher level. It’s a nice feeling to have this all-encompassing sense of observation from people you’ve lost.
“Strictly Come Dancing is something I wanted to do for her and I would have loved to have shared it with her.”
On his identical twin brother Luke — the other half of Bros — Matt seems at peace with their relationship, documented in the 2018 documentary Bros: After The Screaming Stops.
Matt said: “Luke’s very supportive of me doing Strictly. Our relationship is complicated.
“As time goes on there’s a little too much noise with us.
“I’d like to just watch a football game with him and go to the pub. We speak regularly.”
Matt seems dancefloor-ready, sporting a deep tan and toned physique.

He admits: “I do pilates, I swim and I box, plus the stamina of four shows a week is pretty incredible.
“I’ve got a tan from being in America, but I hear that fake tans are mandatory on Strictly — and I’m up for it.”
