Call the Midwife pays touching tribute to fan favourite star with very famous dad after huge TV milestone

CALL The Midwife have paid tribute to one of the show's most loveable characters after he's been nominated for a TV award.

Actor Daniel Laurie, who plays the character of Reggie Jackson on the popular BBC One programme, has been nominated for a TV Choice Award.

The programme is set in the East End of London in the 1950s and follows a group of nurses as they cope with the pressures of their jobs - and personal lives.

The 26-year-old, who joined the show in 2017, has been nominated in the 'Best Actor' category alongside Ben Whishaw, Cillian Murphy and Jonathan Bailey.

Paying tribute to the actor, the period drama's official Twitter account encouraged fans to vote for Daniel.

"We hope by now you've heard the wonderful news that Daniel Laurie, who plays Reggie, has been nominated in the prestigious Best Actor category at this year's TV Choice Awards. We were SO THRILLED at this recognition," the show's account posted.

Daniel, who has Down Syndrome - as well as his character in Call the Midwife, has a famous father.

The late Leslie Grantham, who played legendary character 'Dirty' Den Watts in EastEnders is Daniel's dad.

Speaking about his nomination, Daniel's family said they were "a bit overwhelmed at the moment".

"Thank you to everyone for voting for me - it is an awesome honour. It makes me feel alive," Daniel told his fans.

He continued: "Feeling alive. Feeling recognised and appreciated for who we are and what we do. Isn't that what we all deserve? Isn't that what our drama is all about?"
