NEW BBC drama Marriage has left viewers complaining about the exact same thing.

Marriage, which stars Sean Bean, 63, and Nicola Walker, 52, as husband and wife Ian and Emma, premiered its first episode over the weekend but it wasn’t the storytelling or the acting which got everybody talking.

The drama certainly hasn’t been without its issues as viewers have been taking to social media in their droves with a raft of complaints.

But one thing that certainly rubbed viewers up the wrong way from the beginning was the bizarre theme tune that accompanied the show’s opening sequence.

The theme tune features chants of phrases such as ‘to the side’ and ‘around’ layering on top of each other before culminating in a choir-like vocal performance.

Critics of the show rushed to Twitter to air their dismay over the ‘gibberish’ theme tune.

One user wrote: “The worst ever theme music has to be that of the @bbc TV series #Marriage. The series was ruined by the awful gibberish of vocals crashing into the viewers ears at volume! Worst I have ever had to endure!!”

Another user quickly followed up with: “Possibly the worst theme music I have ever heard #marriage.”

Another jokingly commented: “Whoever made the theme tune to #marriage.. I hope you have an uncomfortable sleep.”

A fellow viewer bluntly put: “Is there a more annoying theme tune than the @BBC #marriage opening and closing credits?”

This was far from the only part of the show that made viewers of the BBC One show want to switch off with many branding the show ‘an excruciating watch’.

One Twitter user did not hold back as they put their thoughts on the show on display, writing: “I'm really trying to give it a good crack of the whip but #marriage is a excruciating watch. The beige is everywhere.”

Another viewer agreed, saying: “#marriage Sean Bean and Nicola Walker..  this is just a horrible thing. Marriage isn't like that. Sean is just cringeworthy. Awkward to watch. Disappointed.”

The four-part BBC drama sees the characters deal with "the insecurities, the ambiguities, the hopes and the fears that are part of all marriages".
