However he was determined to flip tradition and walk down the aisle to a waiting Rhona for their wedding ceremony.

But after collapsing yesterday, Marlon was rushed to hospital and held overnight.

Released just in time for the wedding, his best friend Paddy got him to the church in time and hurled him through the doors in his wheelchair.

“I Rhona Muriel Goskirk take thee Marlon Sebastian Dingle to be my husband,” Rhona told him.

“To have and to hold from this day forward, for better for worse, for richer for poorer, and in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, til death us do part.”

They exchanged rings with Marlon telling her: “I give you this ring as a sign of our marriage.

“With my body I honour you, all I have I share with you.”

Vicar Charles then declared them husband and wife with the pair kissing and making it official.

Fans were breaking down in tears at the rare happy scenes from the soap.

One wrote: "I am in floods tears when you walked down the aisle superb."

A second said: "That was beautiful I’m in tears."

Another added: "Oh my goodness I’m filling up at Emmerdale, suppose you’d allowed a few tears at a wedding."
