Jimmy Carr under fire for 9/11 and Osama Bin Laden joke in new Netflix show
IT’S barely been seven months since Jimmy Carr shocked Netflix viewers with an ill-judged gag about Roma gypsies and the Holocaust.
Now the stand-up comic has ruffled feathers again by making a joke about the September 11 terror attacks by al-Qaeda and its leader Osama Bin Laden on a new show from the streaming giant.
Netflix has chosen to include the jaw-dropping moment on its newly released show, The Best Of Netflix Is A Joke: The Festival.
In it, Jimmy is heard comparing a band member leaving One Direction to the terrorist attack on the Twin Towers in New York City that killed almost 3,000 people.
He said: “Now you might think this is silly, but it’s absolutely true. When Zayn left One Direction, for me, it was like 9/11 — I didn’t care about that either.
“I was actually supposed to be on one of the planes on 9/11, but the more interesting story is how I met Osama.”

The new bombshell gag comes after a huge backlash to a joke Jimmy made about the Holocaust and Roma travellers on His Dark Material, which was released on Chritsmas Day last year.
Word of the shock gag spread and rage grew, with members of the Roma community incensed.
And by the start of February, a spokesman for Prime Minister Boris Johnson even added: “Those comments are deeply disturbing and it is unacceptable to make light of genocide.”
Jimmy’s latest gag was delivered at the Netflix: This Is A Joke Festival in the US between April and May.

But the highlights were only made available on the streaming service last week.
A TV insider said: “They could have selected anything from the event — there was plenty of material to choose from the quickfire comic.
“Many will wonder why they chose this gag to include as part of their ‘Best of’ show”.
Netflix was approached but declined to comment.
DUO STAR IN A DOMM-COM
JOEL Dommett and his wife Hannah Cooper are clearly still blissfully in love, nearly three years after tying the knot.
And their romance has even survived collaborating on podcast Never Have I Ever – though frankly, when they look this good, it can’t be hard to keep the spark alive.
The telly pair were at ITV’s big summer bash on Wednesday night, as were Helen Skelton and Leigh Francis, who clearly both got the floral memo.
And it seems Love Island’s Ikenna Ekwonna finally pulled, as he was seen leaving with Towie’s Dani Imbert.
2021 Islander Liberty Poole was also seen giggling with another Towie cast member, Roman Hackett.
DANNY’S FIRM IN LAST ACT
I’M A Celebrity winner Danny Miller hoped that his stint on the ITV show would kickstart a new chapter in his career.
But it doesn’t look good for the ex-Emmerdale star, who has been forced to shut down his acting firm with £117,527 of debt.
Documents submitted to Companies House suggest Cannon Professional Acting Company, of which Danny owns 80 per cent, owed money to the taxman as well as bank Barclays. This comes just a year after he finished playing Aaron Dingle.
Danny left his four-week-old son Albert with partner Steph Jones to enter Gwrych Castle, but said he could not say no to the pay cheque.
But it sounds like he should be banking a tidy sum soon after bagging a lucrative pantomime contract to play the lead in Jack And The Beanstalk at The Alhambra Theatre, Bradford, this December.
Good luck to you, Danny.
Manville's success revelations
SHE played a miner’s wife in BBC1 drama Sherwood and is about to portray Princess Margaret in Netflix’s The Crown.
But Lesley Manville, 66, says he success is down to her NOT having cosmetic surgery. She told AMAZING magazine: “I couldn’t play these parts if I still looked 40.”
PLANS TO LOOK AT ZUCK
THIS will make you feel old – it’s 20 years since Mark Zuckerberg first founded Facebook.
While some of us would rather forget the awkward throwback photos or random friends from school, BBC2 doesn’t intend to let the anniversary go unnoticed.
A three-part series called Zuckerberg will air later this year and examine how a website to connect students became a worldwide hit.
The BBC’s Jack Bootle, says: “There’s never been a better time to tell the story of Facebook’s founder – and to assess the seismic impact of his work on world culture.”
And there was me thinking Justin Timberlake's The Social Network was the definitive account.
JAMIE’S KICK OUT OF FAME
THERE are just nine days left until the Love Island finale so it is perhaps understandable that newcomer Jamie Allen is wasting no time.
On last night’s episode the professional footballer made a beeline for single girl Danica Taylor and they enjoyed a kiss on a romantic date in the park.
But a pal has claimed the Preston lad is just “desperate for fame”.
Jamie ditched pre-season training for Halifax Town FC to enter the Majorcan villa ahead of the show’s final episode on Monday, August 1.
The friend told me: “Jamie’s been single for ages but always has a girl on the go.
“He’s not looking to fall in love – everyone thinks he just wants to be famous. Nobody can see why he’s ditched his football career to go into a show with days left to run.”

Jamie said: “Now I am 27, I want to find someone, have a genuine connection and fall in love so Love Island is the perfect place for me to find that.”
Osman's out
POINTLESS host Richard Osman has left the BBC1 quiz show after 13 years.
He bid an emotional farewell to co-host Alexander Armstrong in a heartfelt message. He said: “I just want to say how lucky I am to work with you.” Sniff, sniff.
