James May fans terrified after spotting something VERY wrong in background of travel show Our Man In Italy
OUR Man in Italy fans are convinced they saw something ghostly in James May’s travel show.
Former Top Gear presenter James May hosts the Amazon Prime Video travel show, which has seen him travel across Japan and Italy so far.
In Our Man in Italy, which premiered last week, James May, 59, visited the archaeological ruins of the ancient Roman city of Pompeii, which was destroyed in 79AD by the volcano Mount Vesuvius.
However, one eagle-eyed viewer was quick to point out that something wasn’t quite right with James’s visit.
The viewer posted a clip from episode three on TikTok, showing a transparent figure moving around in the background behind the presenter.
They captioned the video: “Just been watching James May’s new program Our Man in Italy on Amazon Prime and spotted this in the background.” The viewer also added the hashtags #ghostsighting, #unexplained and #walkingdead.
Before long, other Our Man in Italy fans also noticed the strange goings on behind the presenter.
“That looked like a ghost moving up the hill in the tree line,” one said.

“It wasn’t the only one I saw,” another fan said, pointing out that there was another when James was at the lake in episode three.
Some viewers have tried to rationalise what they saw, suggesting it was probably just a member of the crew that’s been edited out, or it was added in on purpose. The figure moved across just after James reminded viewers that the site “actually is a mass grave.”
“Either the editor doesn’t know how to remove people in After Effects or put them in to see if people would even notice lol,” one viewer commented.
Another said: “I thought it was supposed to be a part of the show. The timing and frame are too perfect.”
After seeing fans share their opinions, James took to Twitter to address the suspect ghost sighting, offering two possible explanations.
“My thanks to everyone who has pointed out the ‘ghost’ in ep3 of my new Italy series. Nobody saw it at the time, so it’s either a real ghost or (more likely but also more boring) just a bit of digital file corruption.”
It turned out there were other “ghosts” cropping up throughout the series.
“I’ve just spotted another ghost in ep4 at 15mins. I have a feeling there’s an editor having a giggle or it’s a clever marketing strategy to generate social media buzz. Fun little Easter egg,” another viewer wrote in response to the presenter’s tweet.

Given that it happened multiple times in the series, fans have conceded that it was probably just technical difficulties, but they were certainly keen to believe they’d spotted a ghost on the show.
