The 31cm glass bottle went for £5,720 at auction — almost five times its £1,200 estimate.

In the show Del and brother Rodney set up a production line in their South London flat, top, filling bottles from the tap.

They then pass off the contents as mineral water from the mysterious Peckham Spring on their late grandad’s allotment — in reality, a leaking tap.

Labels say: “The purest Peckham Spring Water, drawn from an ancient natural source discovered 800 years ago.”

Sales are boosted by drought warnings — before Peckhams’ taps are shut off when unknown yellow waste from the allotment, dumped by Del, contaminates a reservoir.

The episode ends with Del asleep as a bottle of Peckham Spring Water glows yellow.

The bottle was sold by Ewbanks, of Woking, Surrey, to a private buyer.

Boss Andrew Ewbank said: “We’re delighted to have sold this piece of iconic sitcom history.

"We recommended the buyer does not consume the contents!”
