FANS of The Yorkshire Vet watched on as its star, Peter Wright, was left very embarrassed.

The Veterinarian, 65, was down at The Great Yorkshire Show for Thursday night's episode of the Channel 5 show, and was over the moon to be there.

Peter watched on as farm manager Richard Bartle judged one of the show's events, and thought he'd give it a go too.

The vet got involved with the judging as he made his way in to the ring to get a closer look at the bulls.

Being an animal expert, Peter reckoned he had what it takes to guess which bulls would be the ones to take the top spots.

Speaking to the farm boss, the vet said: "I’m not helping judge but I’m watching a master at work judging these cattle!”

He then asked Richard which tips he'd give to try and find the prize bulls.

The farm manager replied: “I’ll be looking for width throughout the body, a lovely top line, nice tail setting and that extra bit of class that’ll win the show.

“When they come in the ring they’ve got to own the ring!”

When the time to judge began, Peter had a go at inspecting them himself, using the advice given by Richard.

The vet told the camera: ";This job isn’t as easy as it looks.”

He chose number five and seven as his favourites, hoping they'd be the ones to score highly.

However, neither of Peter's options grabbed a rosette from the judges, and were placed at the bottom of the pile.

Speaking to Channel 5 presenter Jules Hudson after the event, Peter admitted he felt nervous.

He said: "I must admit, being in there with the judge, I was nervous actually."

As much as he enjoyed the experience, the vet admitted: "I learnt I should stick to the day job!”

The Great Yorkshire Show 2022 is available to watch on My5.
