Netflix’s documentary series, D. B. Cooper: Where Are You? is the latest in a long line of investigations into what really happened when a mysterious man hijacked a Northwest Airlines passenger jet in November 1971. Netflix viewers were very excited about the documentary series which premiered on Netflix yesterday.

“D. B. Cooper: Where Are You? This is gonna be good,” one Netflix fan wrote in anticipation.

Another, who’s already finished the series, said: “Netflix has an absolutely wonderfully entertaining and informative documentary series about DB Cooper... one of the coolest stories of people getting away with it in our history. I’m not one to glorify the bad guy... but the story of DB Cooper is fascinating.”

Cooper has been the topic of many documentaries, and even fictionalised in shows like Prison Break and Loki. But, the identity of D. B. Cooper remains one of the biggest true crime mysteries that armchair detectives can’t help but try to solve.

“Watching this new DB Cooper doc series on Netflix despite having watched like 10 docs on him already,” one viewer said.

“I solved the DB Cooper case years ago after I saw a YouTube video and now Netflix has the audacity to put out a new program,” another joked.

There have been many men suspected of being D. B. Cooper over the decades, but no one really knows what happened. Of course, that hasn’t stopped fans from sharing their conspiracy theories online.

“Before I sit down and watch this @netflix DB Cooper series, I’ve done a bit into it already. My two theories are that it was Sheridan Peterson or the airline crew made it up,” one viewer theorised.

Another viewer leaned into the theory that D. B. Cooper is really Robert Rackshaw, a criminal the FBI strongly believed to be the hijacker for several years.

“Ok so here’s what I think. DB Cooper could be Robert Rackstraw,” they said.

But they went further, explaining what they thought might have happened to Cooper/Rackstraw. “DB Cooper obviously was a really smart man. Maybe the CIA/FBI figured this out and then instead of prosecuting him, they convinced him to work for them,” he theorised.

Another viewer concurred, saying: “Watching this docu series about DB Cooper on Netflix … This guy hijacked a plane in 1971 and has never been found. I am convinced it’s Bob too.”

D. B. Cooper: Where Are You? Is available to stream on Netflix.
