AFTER fifteen years away from Weatherfield, Stephen Reid returned to the cobbles but his behaviour is being watched closely.

Coronation Street fans believe he has an ulterior motive for being back - and it's bad news for his mother Audrey Roberts.

The hairdresser portrayed by Sue Nicholls was recently involved in a terrible accident at the barber's when a motorbike fell on top of her.

Thankfully for Audrey, her son Stephen Reid (played by Todd Boyce) came back to the Street to save the day and took charge of the situation.

Stephen hadn't been seen in Weatherfield for fifteen years and fans were shocked to notice he had adopted a Canadian accent.

But after recent instalments of the Manchester-based soap, ITV viewers are more concerned for his mother as they believe they've worked out the real reason for his return.

Stephen was recently given control over Audrey's finances as she gave him his trust over her grandchildren.

Audrey's grandson David (Jack P. Shepherd) notably tried to get power of attorney over her fortune and that was enough for her to decide to put her money in trust funds and that Stephen will be taking care of them.

Suspicious fans took to social media on Friday and shared their theories, firmly convinced Stephen will be stealing his mother's money.

"Stephen is definitely up to something, you don't come back after all these years out of the blue without a motive", one of them speculated.

Another echoed: "Stephen is the one that's going to take all of Audrey's money."

"So Stephen is going to stick around and embezzle the trust funds", a third one wrote while a fourth fan jumped in: "Stephen is broke & in debt so he is trying take Audrey’s money."

A fifth viewer penned: "And Stephen is going to run off with the trust funds isn't he?"

"I think Stephen is after Audrey’s money", one final fan commented.

On Wednesday, Audrey announced she would give her money to the Weatherfield Association of Retail Traders and Stockholders, which was very dear to her late former husband Alf Roberts.

But when the episode drew to a close, she revealed to Stephen she had put her family to the test to see who had her best interest.

It was then clear to her that Stephen, who claimed to not have been fazed by her decision, was the one she could trust.

Stephen told the rest of their family about Audrey's plan - but didn't appear to be honest about his conversation with her.

Much to her grandchildren's horror, Audrey made her final decision clear on Friday.

However, fans may be right about his motives as snaps have teased Stephen is hiding something about his own money.

Actor Todd Boyce was seen filming upcoming scenes during which he walks into a charity shop - although he's supposed to be financially comfortable enough to take over the Underworld factory.

Is Stephen Reid really being honest with Audrey?
