Love Island’s Jacques accused of ‘gaslighting’ Paige by ex Islander who says ‘I know – I’ve been there’
LOVE Island’s Jacques O'Neill has been accused of ‘gaslighting’ Paige Thorne by an ex Islander Shaughna Phillips - who has said 'I’ve been there’.
As viewers will know, Jacques, 23, is trying to win back Paige, 24, after cracking on with Cheyanne Kerr, 23, in Casa Amor.
On Thursday the pair decided to stick with each other at the recoupling ceremony.
However Paige was let heartbroken when Cheyanne revealed the truth about what they had been getting up to with her in front of the rest of the Islanders.
Shortly after, the paramedic confronted Jacques about his laddish ways - and Love Island 2020 star Shaughna, 27, wasn't impressed with how he handled it.
"Jacques was also being really rude to Paige afterwards. She was way too easy on him in my opinion," Shaughna wrote in her latest Love Island column for

"When he said, 'I think you forget we’re single', I found that was so disrespectful. That’s such a muggy thing to say to someone.
"I think he’s trying to play it as, 'I don’t want her to win me back because I don’t deserve it', but actually, he doesn’t mean that.
"I don’t think it seems like he even likes her that much.
"It’s typical gas lighting behaviour. He was basically saying, 'If you don’t get over it, you’re the one with the problem.'"

The former democratic services officer originally coupled up with Callum Jones on day one, but Molly Smith caught the scaffolder's eye and he recoupled with her.
Shaughna left the villa on day 33.
What is gaslighting?
Gaslighting is essentially a control tactic used to manipulate others by using deceptive behaviour to make you doubt your own sanity - often making the victim feel like they are going crazy, questioning their actions, while explaining away their own.
Worryingly, we are seeing more of this on our TV screens, with reality shows like Love Island criticised for allowing such manipulative behaviour among young couples.
Victims usually start to question their memory and perception as a result of psychological manipulation, with gaslighters tending to twist words or convince victims they said or did something they didn't.
They will try to make you look unreasonable or irrational, distorting reality to make you feel guilty - trivialising your feelings and excusing their own bad behaviour.
Meanwhile, things seemed pretty good between Paige and Jacques.
But during his time in Casa Amor, Jacques showed an interest in Cheyanne and Mollie Salmon, 23.
He soon realised he wanted to pursue things with Cheyanne and decided to 'test his relationship' with Paige by flirting and kissing her.
