Coronation Street’s Stephen Reid hides a dark secret as he seizes control of mum Audrey’s money

AUDREY Roberts has been reunited with her son Stephen Reid after 15 years.

But why is he really back in Coronation Street? New snaps of actor Todd Boyce filming upcoming scenes have hinted at a dark secret.

Corrie fans were distracted by his surprising accent but, like it or not, Stephen Reid is back in Weatherfield.

The character made his comeback when his on-screen mother Audrey Roberts (played by Sue Nicholls) was left under a motorbike for a whole night and her life hung in the balance.

He immediately took charge of the situation and has been set to take control of Audrey's fortune.

Aside from his family business, Stephen is also getting into regular business as he's determined to become the new Underworld boss.

However, Stephen could be hiding something from his loved ones on the cobbles.

New photos of Todd Boyce on location, filming upcoming scenes of the long-running ITV drama have shown him heading to a charity shop.

The storyline will see him buy second-hand clothes but why would he need to do so if he's all ready to take control of the Underworld factory, which would involve some healthy amount of money?

Has Stephen decided to take over his mother's money to take over the Street?

Could he be facing serious financial issues which have led him straight back to his mother's home?

This all remains to be seen but, in the meantime, spoilers have confirmed Stephen will be stirring up trouble at Underworld.

This all starts when factory PA (and Stephen's niece) Sarah Platt (Tina O'Brien) welcomes his advice over Underworld's business.

A conversation with long-term boss Carla Connor ensues and Sarah pitches the idea of buying silk from Stephen.

But is it smart to do business with family? Carla definitely doesn't think so and shoots the idea down.

Later on, Sarah is flattered when her uncle tells her she shouldn't be taking order from Carla.

How will Sarah react?

Could she turn her back on Carla altogether, allowing Stephen to settle in?

Why did Stephen come back after more than a decade away?

Could Audrey be in danger with him?
