LOVE Island viewers are convinced they've worked out the real reason Danica chose to couple up with Jay.

Danica, 21, picked Jay, 28, during this week's dramatic recoupling despite new boy Charlie, 28, being available.

Following Charlie's performance in Tuesday night's heart-rate challenge, fans think Danica wanted to make sure she didn't end up with him.

Posting a clip of Charlie's routine, one wrote: "People are shocked that Danica picked Jay but would you want to be stuck in a bed with Charlie?"

Another said: "I don’t blame Danica. I wouldn’t want to sleep next to Charlie neither after yesterday's performance."

And a third added: "Can you blame Danica for not wanting to share a bed with Charlie tho?"

Danica initially caused confusion with fans after picking Jay, who had previously made it clear he isn't interested in her romantically.

One tweeted: "Was just feeling sorry for Danica but that was MAD. Jay literally said he’s not into her and she still picked him …. Why thooooo?"

Echoing this, another wrote: "Jay made himself perfectly clear to Danica. Why would she pick him?"

A third questioned: "As much as I rate Danica for picking Jay…babes the guy literally rejected you... why would you pick him?"

Earlier in the day, Danica had pulled Jay aside for a chat and asked how he was feeling about the forthcoming recoupling.

The professional dancer pointed out that she would be the one doing the choosing, as it would be the girls' turn.

But Jay told her: "If I'm being honest, just because of the age difference between you and I, if there was going to be any romantic potential, it would probably be with Antigoni."
