THE Undeclared War is set to hit our screens on Thursday 30 June, 2022 on Channel 4.

The series follows a team who work to ward off a series of cyber-attacks on the UK, but is it based on a true story?

The new series isn't based on a true story but extensive research was put into the production to make it as realistic as possible.

It is written by Bafta winner Peter Kosminsky who said it took five years to make.

The characters in the show are fictional and the story is set in the near future.

Is The Undeclared War based on a book?

The Undeclared War is not based on a book but Peter Kominsky has set the series in a post-pandemic Britain.

It is set in 2024 where the UK face a series of cyber-attacks in the run-up to a general election.

Despite being set in the future, Kominsky has said that nothing in the six episode series is unrealistic.

But on the other hand, he has said this isn't necessarily how it will turn out.

Hannah Khalique-Brown played Saara Parvin, who finds herself on work experience at GCHQ when the first attack hits.

Simon Pegg then plays the Head of Operations at GCHQ Daniel Patrick and Adrian Lester plays new Conservative Prime Minister Andrew Makinde.

Talking about playing a more serious role, Simon said: "It is a more dramatic role and something that I really relished - I trained to do that kind of thing.

"But I took a particular path and it’s really lovely to be able to jump onto another path.

"I relate more to Danny now in my life, at 52, than I do Shaun or any of those characters I’ve played - particularly Tim in Spaced, who was sort of a stoner who didn’t know what to do with his life."

When does The Undeclared War start on Channel 4?

The Undeclared War will begin on Channel 4 at 9pm on Thursday, June 30.

Each of the six episodes will be aired at the same time each week.
